So many people I talk to are so afraid to have their business tied in any way to their personal Facebook account. When I ask why they think having a Fanpage would link them directly to it they have no answer.
Oh how our minds work…. Automatically people are thinking that they need to create a business profile on Facebook and then a Fanpage, but folks, you do not have to do this. You do not need to double your work load Online and you certainly do not need to piss off your target audience/customers in any way.
You are probably thinking, “But how would this piss them off?“
Well regardless if you are thinking this or not I am going to share a few reasons why Business profiles on Facebook are not the best option.
- Your name can only be two words on a Facebook Profile so if your business name is “Awesome Shoes and Socks” it is going to look something like this on Facebook “AwesomeShoes andSocks“. Looks pretty silly, huh? On your Facebook Fanpage you are able to type and spell out your business name just how it really is.
- Your Facebook Profile isn’t really made for a business, it’s catered to people!
- Having a business profile will ultimately lead to a Fanpage or a Group or possibly both which means that you are going to invite me to it/them and this means that I will be blessed with repeated promotions and updates and this will lead me to either unfriend you or unlike your page (sometimes people will do both). <- This pisses people off (well at least for me)
- People will connect with your Fanpage or Group because they want to be informed of your updates. Many people will accept your friend request for your business because they are obsessed with numbers, having a following and more than likely wont engage with your profile created for your business.
Keeping business separate from personal in a world of technology isn’t easy to do and for the most part isn’t worth the effort, but on Facebook it might be the smartest decision you made in order to keep your audience listening to you.
