How many Twitter accounts do you currently have? Most individual people probably only have one, maybe two, but more than likely only one. Business owners, however, could have two or possibly even three. One personal and one for the business. Is this you? This is me, but I also maintain 6-8 other (client) Twitter accounts on a daily basis.
With maintaining so many Twitter accounts I have quickly had to find ways to maintain all of them flawlessly without letting any one account slip.
I’m sure you are curious as to what tool/platform I use to Tweet with and the answer is MyVBO.com. This allows for me to schedule Tweets and manage all accounts from within one webpage/module. Pretty kick ass!
Know your target audience. If you are a scrap booking shop local to Portland then use the resources available to key into those people in Portland that are interested in Scrapbooking. If you also offer Online orders than focus on local and build on those that are purely interested in scrap booking in the areas you ship to.
You can find these connections by listening/researching Online. Do a Google search for “Portland scrapbooking“. When you locate blogs look for a “Follow me” Twitter button and do just that.
Do a Twitter search for Portland and start connecting with locals.
I’m sure if you are in the business then you are passionate about the topic so feel free to also talk about scrapbooking on your personal account, but remember that these connections have not opted-in (chosen to follow) your business advertisements.
Provide content that your connections will find valuable, but remember that you need to connect and not just post. Find the perfect balance between the two. Say good morning on your business account, trust me…. It’s OK to do so… because I said so! You know those conversations you are having on your personal account, you can have similar ones revolving around your business too. Just as easily and it would be a smart idea.
Schedule your important business updates at night when you have some downtime and then use the daytime hours to connect with your followers.
Make logging in a habit.
Everyday log into Twitter via the web to do your follow backs and account maintenance. Seeing your accounts grow is exciting and will be encouragement for you to continue maintaining both business and personal accounts.
