The power of the Internet is such a beautiful thing, isn’t it?
Semi-local (to me here in Tampa) band, We The Kings launched a crowdfunding campaign almost a month ago on Indiegogo looking to raise $35,000 to launch their upcoming 4th album. The band decided they would rather work with fans than a label to get their next album out. They are already a pretty popular band, heck I listen to them daily… If you saw commercials for the Parenthood season premiere you probably heard one of their latest hits “Just Keep Breathing”. I love that their perks for contributing are actually pretty awesome, especially for a die hard fan! Everything from the digital download to the band taking over your Instagram account for the day and even the chance for your own band to open for an entire week during a 2014 tour.
The Successful Crowdfunding Campaign
I truly believe that the success of this campaign comes from a few places. The first would be the fact that the band is f’n good. Seriously. The next would be that they are using social media to help promote. It doesn’t hurt that their bassist, Charles Trippy just happens to be a kinda big deal over on the YouTubes. Charles and his wife make daily vlogs of their life and has recently set a Guiness World Record for most consecutive days vlogged on YouTube…. They also have over a million subscribers and a loyal fan base also known as the CTFxC. Finally, I truly believe that this campaign is so successful because the perks don’t suck. If you’re crowdfunding you’re asking people to give you money for something you want to do so why not give them something they will actually like in exchange for their generosity? They got creative with their perks and I believe that helped make this campaign a huge success.
I’m curious to see what the final amount raised will end up being in 4 days, are you?
