This isn’t going to be a long post and to be honest I have no real scientific data to back up my opinions so please take everything I say with a grain of salt…and a shot or two of tequila.
It’s that time of the year again. I’d like to say it’s the most wonderful time of the year, but what I’m referring to is totally different. It’s the time of the year where we become increasingly thankful and offended simultaneously. It’s all too common nowadays to see people pissed about something completely dumb claiming to be offended by someone…or typically some business, but why? Why are we so quick to claim that we are offended by a business being opened on Thanksgiving or Starbucks rolling out a new coffee cup? Does it really make you mad? Do you lose sleep over this? Why are you pissed when companies say merry Christmas and not Happy Holidays? Is it becoming ingrained in our minds or is it learned behavior? Were you pissed about a coffee cup 10 years ago?
I’m seriously so curious. We live in a world where other people’s lives have become the business of everyone, and their mother, where everything celebs do is looked at under a microscope and picked apart, and where businesses can’t do shit without some idiot being offended by something as stupid as a font used because maybe somewhere in history that font was similar to one that was used by someone that took something from someone.
Why are we so quick to jump on the bandwagon? Are you truly offended or do you even know what offended feels like? Seriously….I’m willing to bet 98% of people claiming something or someone offends them truly don’t even have a clear understanding of the word.
verb of·fend \ə-ˈfend\
to cause (a person or group) to feel hurt, angry, or upset by something said or done
: to be unpleasant to (someone or something)
: to do wrong : to be against what people believe is acceptable or proper
So now lets take a look at what everyone is currently offended by
Disclosure: The above picture is mine. That is my triple venti (dare I say) peppermint mocha.
[insert gasps and rage here]
Will someone who is offended by this cup please explain to me why, and I don’t want a copy/paste answer, I want true feelings. Is it because the people here aren’t shaded to be different tones of green? Is it because the green is too Christmasy? Is it because you have no f*cking clue and it’s the easiest thing to focus on because focusing on your own life would be too hard? Supposedly some see it as a political agenda….seriously?! Oh and apparently Christians are pissed because it’s not Christmasy enough. I’m Christian, Lutheran to be exact, and not everything has to have baby Jesus on it to symbolize the holiday season.
It’s a cup people….a cup that is meant to encourage positivity and togetherness, but hey…go on being offended and enjoy your miserable life if you choose to do so.
I have other things to focus on….like my business, family, and friends.
If this post offends you, I’m not sorry 🙂
