A Good Example Of Why You Should Be Monitoring Your Venue On Foursquare

01 A Good Example Of Why You Should Be Monitoring Your Venue On Foursquare

Do you know if your business has a listing on Foursquare?

Have you claimed your listing?

Do you monitor your listing or have someone that monitors it for you?

I checked out the Applebees listing that I had just visited to see if many people check-in there and to my surprise found two “tips or to-do’s” that provide absolutely no value and although they were not offensive to me, they could be to others.

This is  a company that has hundreds of locations across the country and they aren’t monitoring their listing?! This is a huge shock to me, but also made me realize that sometimes the largest companies are the last to embrace new technology.

I decided to reach out and ask Dr. Nate (and Foursquare, but Dr. Nate actually responded) if it is possible to delete tips and comments that people leave about your venue. Since Dr. Nate is the owner of and has claimed Bright Eyes Family Vision Care’s Foursquare listing I figured he was the best person to ask. His answer was exactly what I thought it would be, yes. He went on to ask me if I saw one that needed to be deleted on his listing just as anyone else would do if they were concerned with how their venue is viewed.

What am I getting at?

Well just like anything else Online (Twitter, Facebook, Blog comments, Youtube comments) we need to be monitoring Foursquare to make sure our businesses and venues are always providing a consistent Online presence in a positive way. I know that this may not be a serious “tip”, but it’s definitely not something I needed to know.

How about letting me know about happy hour specials?

Now that would be useful!

Have you seen any offensive tips on a Foursquare venue listing?

It’s so important to monitor your brand on Foursquare especially in the early booming stages, and certainly if your looking to be part of the movement.

I have called our tanning salons before and had associates pull free merchandise, etc. for customers that just checked-in. They always love it.
