If you’re not familiar with what Airtime is, it’s a web application built on (not by)allowing its users to have a unique video chat experience. I’ve used it since the day it launched and have a few opinions of my own in regards to the different uses.
Using Airtime to Meet New People
The first day that they launched and I logged in I wasn’t expecting to be on webcam. My hair was insanely messy. Imagine sticking your finger in the electric socket, multiply that by 10 and now forget that image…. That’s too scary to think about.
Needless to say I didn’t use the webcam feature. I covered mine with a sticker and started checking out the site. I chatted with a few Facebook contacts and called it quits after about an hour. A few days later I noticed that I had been banned from using the “Chatroulette” style feature to chat with friends of my Facebook friends. Sending an email not only got me unbanned, but explained why. Because I had covered my camera they had banned me. Now that I have been warned I will always use my webcam on that site.
For about an hour I browsed through people meeting all sorts of individuals that shared many of the same interests as I have. I spoke with a few people locally in Tampa, one in Singapore that gave me some great pointers on launching a startup and another out in California. It was fun and when I have free time I can see myself utilizing this feature.
Using Airtime to Stay Connected
The #1 reason that I use Airtime is to stay in touch with my bestie up in Missouri. Airtime has a feature where you are able to leave video messages for one another and LOVE when I receive messages from her and her 3 year old. He tells me about his day or what he’s going to be doing over the weekend – these videos make my day!
There are many features that airtime offers and I do suggest checking it out. Currently I’m on a mission to get one of my other good friends who happens to be in the Army stationed in Korea on Airtime so he can be more connected to his Mom and Dad.
Have you used Airtime?
