01 Dont Forget The Real World

365 Days of Blogging Challenge | Day 16

If you think I am talking about the MTV show “Real World”, you are going to be  surprised to find out that this post has nothing to do with that show or that channel. This blog post has everything to do with making sure that you remember traditional marketing when planning and executing your Social Media campaigns.

You see, you have all sorts of people that you could be reaching out to if you plan your strategies and campaigns to target the Online and Offline audience that you need to reach.

Example:

You are a business owner with a physical location. Your location sells socks. They sell bright yellow socks, white ones, socks with the toes in them, knee socks and ankle socks. You name the type of sock, they have it.

Your location is in a pretty decent place. It isn’t in the most busy part of town, but it isnt far away and people gladly drive to local businesses for what they need.

You as a business owner have decided to reach out to new people through Social Media so you set up a Twitter, Facebook, maybe a FlickR and a YouTube as well. You have a website set up, but is your address on there? Do you have a hyperlink to a Google map so I can find your location? <- Step one in tying the Real World and your Online efforts together

Online you want to make sure that all of your Social Sites point back to your main site, but what if I want to contact you right away? Let’s face it, us humans are pretty impatient at times so I want to be able to find your phone number or email address anywhere I see you. Can I do that now?

What about promotions? Are you making sure these promotions bring people off of the Internet and into your door? If not, you might want to start now.

Now let’s say I met you at a Networking event and you handed me your business card. Maybe I want to see what people are saying about your socks. Are they prone to getting holes in the toes? Do the colors fade easily? Do they shrink when you wash them?

How am I going to find all of this out? I am going to go to the Internet and check you out. Does your business card reflect your important and dominant Social Sites? <- You should have your Twitter handle and Facebook fanpage URL available on your business card. People want to connect with brands and companies Online and this way new people will be connecting and have the ability to hear about Online promotions, new items and other Offline information.

Maybe you want to have a three part marketing strategy where it starts Offline, leads people Online to your Social Sites and ends up back Offline (hopefully with people through your door and sales of new socks ringing up).

With anything that you do and any strategy you come up with, make sure you are unique in the plan, execution and final stages of it all.
