So Twitter has launched another new feature. Twitter now suggests people for you to follow on not only your “home” page, but also when you follow someone new. I guess I can understand why they did this, I mean Facebook has the “suggested friends” option, but Facebook and Twitter are actually very different in the way people connect.

The thing I do not like about this new feature is that most of the people that Twitter is suggesting are people that I just recently weeded out from following due to spammy Tweets or celebrities and I rarely follow any of them because I enjoy the “social” aspect of Twitter.

What is Epic Thanks Tampa?

Epic Thanks Tampa is an event that will be taking place in the Tampa Bay area on November 19, 2010. The event will be the result of combining Tweetsgiving (a global celebration that aims to change the world through the power of gratitude) and the amazing efforts of the Epic Change Organization. Epic Thanks Tampa will be focusing on helping one local change maker see their efforts come to fruition with a small push and some financial backing. The event will be a fundraising event that will also benefit Epic Change.

What/Who is a Changemaker?

A Changemaker is someone that is making a difference in the area in a positive way. Someone that could do amazing things if only they had a few extra bucks and some support. Think the Extreme Home Makeover, you know where they help that family that takes in homeless children, build a new home. The idea is not to build a new home, but we are looking for that hidden gem that is selflessly giving their own time and resources to make a positive impact in our community.

In the very very near future the Epic Thanks Tampa committee will be looking towards the Tampa Bay, St. Pete, Clearwater and surrounding area communities to help us find a local change maker doing something that is amazing, positive and basically unheard of.

There will be many more details as the event starts to get off the ground.

It is true that in order to generate the most buzz with Twitter that you have to provide quality content. This means that you need to NOT SPAM and provide content that your following would be interested in. Now let’s say you are doing all of that. The quality of the content ROCKS! Your followers are for the most part real and not bots and yet you wonder why you are not getting many Retweets, @replies or hits to your site/blog.

The problem could be WHEN you are Tweeting and not WHAT the content is. You might be Tweeting when most of your following is sleeping, working or not at their computers. Find out when your followers are connecting most often and then try again. All too often I see businesses and individuals trying to connect on Twitter at times like 3am. Most people are asleep (well most except night owls like me lol).

Remember that when you Tweet is just as important as what you Tweet!

Yesterday Mashable covered a story about MySpace stating that they are “beta testing” (on select accounts) a new look. the look gives it more of a web 2.0 or WordPress site feel from the image I saw. I logged into my account (yes I still have one, don’t you?), but sadly enough my account is not one of the ones that is testing out the new look. What do you think about it? Do you think that MySpace could make a comeback or do you think it’s too late for them?

I personally am kind of excited to see what happens with this, what about you?

OMG where do I start with this review?

I guess for starters, this is absolutely perfect for people like me.

I am a Geek and I do love Geeks and I’m single!

GeekIsSingle.com is a very  new site with very few Geeks signed up at this point. They are still working on a few details and adding the finishing touches, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t sign up now and join the fun early. I know that Geeks like me are early adopters, so it’s in our nature to join early LOL.

I joined so I could see what the site offers and what makes it different from other Online dating sites, I swear that’s why I joined, it has NOTHING to do with me being single, LOLzz.

Geek Is Single has a completely painless signup process and once you have an account you will notice that you have access to so many features such as:

Did I mention that this dating site is completely different?

Most Online dating sites offer an events calendar, but that’s for singles mixers and similar events. To me that doesn’t sound fun because none of my friends (who are married or dating someone) would attend with me.

I am pretty sure that most Online dating sites do not offer groups for its users to join and converse. I could be wrong on this one though.

Polls, Blogs and Articles: I’m not too sure what you think, but to me this appears to be a community within a community. It appears to be a Social Network for single Geeks where you might, maybe, hopefully meet the Geek of your dreams.

One more thing about Geek Is Single, This is where us girls get to chase the Geeks.

You Geeky boys Create your account and profile, wait on us girls (lol) and then when a girl pursues you, you get to choose if you want to make the connection and go on a date.

I don’t know about you, but I think that this is just what all of us single Geeks need.

I LOVE all things Social Media (except the spam) and love to find new sites, products and services that could enhance my Social Media experience or just show off some really awesome Geeky products that revolve around Social Media.

With all of that said, I have started doing “Featured Reviews” on this site. They could be something that I found and wanted to review, they could be something that someone suggested or it could simply be a company contacting me asking me if I would like to review their product or service.

I am ONLY ONLY ONLY interested in doing reviews that revolve around Social Media.

Example: I reviewed a Twitter necklace I found on Etsy and then posted a review on how MyVBO simplifies Twitter for people that have multiple accounts that they manage.

I do have a few reviews in the works already, but am always looking for awesome stuff!

Today I was a little stumped for what to talk about in this blog so I opened it up to Twitter to see what people would like to know, get advice on or learn more about. One of my Twitter friends wanted to know how she could get her target audience to follow her back and engage with her.

The first step to this is knowing who your target audience is. If you discuss health and nutrition and want to engage with individuals that are looking for these topics then I would suggest following and engaging in conversations with people that either are:

1. Passionate about the subject.

2. Are looking for healthier alternatives and talking about it.

In the case of trying to make your local business succeed through Social Media, you need to key it down to the geographical location. The Twitterer that gave me the topic has storage unit rentals so she would need to key into the local community Online. One way to do this is to find Twitter lists that users have created for the location. Another way is to run keyword searches for terms such as “divorce” (yes divorce because in most cases one person is looking to relocate and in some cases they end up with friends or family until they can get their own place again), “Moving”, “Moving to Tampa” and of course “Storage Units”.

This will help you find, follow and engage with people that may be needing your services.

Another way is to voice your opinion in your own Blog. Become the expert in what you do. Since this is a Storage  Rental company I would Blog about:

1. Moving tips.

2. Packing tips.

3. Do’s and dont’s

There are many other topics that can be discussed, but you get the picture.

Also since this is a local business, discuss local topics. I also suggest that you come out from behind the computer and take your Online Networking into real life. Attend Tweetups, business networking events and get togethers.
