April 16, 2010, will you be checking in?
It all stemmed from a GENIUS idea by Dr. Nate Bonilla-Warford of Bright Eyes Family Vision Care here in Tampa, FL and is quickly becoming a global phenomenon almost overnight. From Tampa to London and even Prague, businesses and communities are getting together to strategize how they can positively use April 16th to generate a huge buzz in their cities, towns and communities.
@Redheadjessica helped get Foursquare to recognize what was going on and they officially announced that they were declaring April 16th FourSquare day in this Tweet!
That’s when this all became even more exciting and the fact that this idea came from one of Tampa’s very own makes it even more amazing.

Thx Kim! Great post and overview! This is such a great, easy way for Business Owners to engage customers…..not participating is akin to telling your customers to go visit your competitors instead.

Laura, I couldn’t agree with you more. This is basically being handed to communities and businesses and all they have to do is act on it. It’s definitely what the Tampa Bay area needs as well as other cities and towns around the world. I’m excited to see all of the creative ways that people will take advantage of the day.
Thanks Kim! One of the beautiful things about foursquare Day and foursquare in general is that it does not take a lot of effort on the part of the consumer or business. People just check in to play the game and businesses just have offer some mayor specials the rest happens organically.
I am thrilled that Foursqure Day has become a world-wide phenomenon in less than a week!!

Kim if nothing else Foursquare is certainly fun for business owners
Haha. On a serious note I love the concept behind Foursquare, wrote a post about it last night actually and have been toying with it in our small business’s for the last couple of months.
Shortly we will be doing Foursquare promos and Mayer incentives, we are pretty excited about it.

To reiterate Dr. Nate’s post from above “One of the beautiful things about foursquare Day and foursquare in general is that it does not take a lot of effort on the part of the consumer or business.” –

I will also be partaking in 4sq day, but think this day will be a lot more successful at promoting 4 square than participating businesses.
Thank you so much for your outlook, I totally concur with you. It is great to see a fresh outlook on this and I appear forward to more.
