It’s the Tuesday after the Foursquare Day festivities and although I got to be part of the grassroots approach to Foursquare Day here in Tampa, I am still having a hard time really loving Foursquare. It has nothing to do with security issues and nothing to do with not wanting people to know where I am. It has to do with the fact that I do not have a smart phone that has a Foursquare
App. Yes, I know the simple solution would be to buy a smart phone, right? Well unless you are buying one for me, that wont be happening anytime soon. I just got my Samsung Freeform about 3 months ago through Metro PCS and I love it. I have GPS, can access my emails, get Online and so much more. This is also ALL Unlimited for only $50 a month. Awesome deal huh? (No this post is not sponsored by Metro PCS LOL)
So anyways back to why Foursquare and I are not the best of friends right now
So with no App on my phone to easily “Check-in” I am forced to use the mobile version (m.foursquare.com). When I say forced, I really don’t mean it. It’s no biggie…..IF IT WORKED! It doesn’t work and I am not the only one with the issue. I have emailed Foursquare and commented on multiple forum threads with no response whatsoever. Now last week Foursquare stated that they had fixed the mobile web issue, but I can honestly say that it is not fixed and it is a HUGE FAIL for Foursquare.
Foursquare, do you know how many people you are losing because we can’t “Check-in” from our phones?
This issue forces me to only be able to “Check-in” when I have my laptop and Wi-fi is available which isn’t nearly as fun. Will I still use Foursquare like this? Sure, however I can’t promise for how long as it could become a huge hassle. Oh yeah, I would even be OK “Checking-in” with the SMS feature IF THAT WORKED TOO!
Please Foursquare, could you work on your mobile feature so people like me can get the full advantage of Foursquare? We might still be able to be Besties if this happens and I can bet that more people will be loving you if you make it happen!
Do you use Foursquare? If so do you have a smartphone with the App or are you able to use the mobile web to “Check-in”? I would love to know!

On my other phone which had internet capabilities I could not check in at all on the mobile website. Oddly enough, I can check into the mobile site just fine from my laptop.
I now have a blackberry and I’m able to check in with the app.
It’s a huge fail for Foursquare because more people do not have smartphones. Ehhh maybe they’ll realize it soon enough!
I would have to say that a little bit or perhaps a lot of that issue is based on the fact that Foursquare is ahead of itself, imagine the future growth potential….. when everyone does have a smart phone. Of course by that time checking in to places will probably be something else.
