I’m very excited to see Google+ turning one! I’m excited because it has not turned into a ghost town like most of Google’s other social attempts have. Google+ has been a nice addition to my Social Media campaigns both personally and professionally for both myself and my clients. That’s all it’s been though. It’s been an addition, not a substitution for for any other platform. It has not changed the way I use Twitter or Facebook. It has not killed either platform. It’s just been another platform that I enjoy using to connect with people.
With all of that said…. It drives me INSANE to see things like this.
Do you realize that you’re using Twitter and Facebook to “announce” that you “left” said site…. Uhhhh Obviously you HAVE to see the problem here! You HAVE to see that in order for you to get the word out about your precious “move”, you have to use another network.
Am I the only one that thinks this is a waste of time?!
To make things worse I am now seeing these popping up everywhere.
This is my response

Yes! It’s super annoying but I also sort of enjoy the irony behind it. Sometimes it just makes me laugh. I joined G+ in beta but I had a hard time enjoying it because I had no friends on it. Over time though, many of my friends have joined as well. I didn’t start using it for business though until I heard Scott Monty speak on it at Social Fresh East. Why I thought having a social network on Google would not effect SEO is beyond me. It’s a great tool but as you said, it replaces nothing. It almost seems to capture the best features of both Facebook and Twitter and roll them together. Also, you get all kinds of cool points for using a Wonka meme.
Yes! I’ve been using it since the first days and honestly cared more for it for personal use back then as opposed to today. Today it’s just a mess of crap in my opinion mixed in with some great content…. Wait, sounds like FB and Twitter LOL. I honestly, if forced to give one up out of the 3 would choose to give up G+ – for personal use. Business and client use is a totally different subject. I’ve been using it for that since the day they rolled out pages and think the possibilities are endless.
Memes FTW!
Hi Kim,
(I mostly agree with you) But Google+ still offers some value to me with the option of hangouts and using social signals in Search Results – but it still has not replaced Facebook and the amount of time I spend on the Social Channel. This has just offered me another Social Channel to use and incorporate – And if you can find a way that suits you and enables you to utilize the advantages of both – all the better.
I think it has a future Google + splendid. Personally I like a lot more than Facebook, but there is still a long way because it will be difficult for the critical mass of people who have Facebook go to Google +. Although it is already noticing an exhaustion Facebook users
I heard about google+ will be #1 on the social networks in few years so I think will be true!
I dont think so at all. There’s no way that people are giving up their Facebook accounts to switch to a similar sometimes more noisy site.
Agreed. I still use all other platforms, just added G+ as an addition to the awesomeness!
I don’t like google plus very well, because I think that Google is trying to copy Facebook, but here are my best wishes! Happy birthday!
