One of my dear friends, Rusty Goodall, posted an article about the London Eye on Thursday afternoon to his company Facebook page. To be honest, I hadn’t heard of it until I had read the article. If I had I wasn’t paying very close attention. Regardless, Rusty visited the London Eye on Thursday evening for the start of the campaign that will show the mood of the British population every evening at 9 leading up to the Olympics. According to various sites, the London Eye will be lit up depending on their nations positive Tweets. If 50% of the Tweets are positive and happy, 50% of the eye will be lit.
Quite interesting and daring, don’t you think?
Could you imagine having a similar experiment in your town, state, country or heck, what about your own house. What percentage would be lit then?
This post is kinda two-fold. It’s awesome to see such a creative project coming out of the UK in regards to technology and Social Media, but it’s also interesting to see that they’re focusing on the mood of a nation. Would they try to do something if the positiveness of the UK was less than 50%? Happier commercials, unleash clowns on the streets of London or maybe try to see WHY people aren’t happy. I’m curious!
What would you do if you were in charge of a project like this?
Me? I’d create a poll to get to the bottom of why people weren’t happy. It’s only once you figure out why something is happening can you then figure out how to change things for the positive.
Thank you, Rusty for being KiMedia’s Australian correspondent in the UK
