Social Media is more than just businesses spamming, branding and advertising their products on Social Networking platforms throughout the web. I admit that I am a Social Media Strategist and I help businesses find and provide a positive presence Online WITHOUT the spam and the has
sle. With that said, I am NOT here to preach about how Facebook and Twitter can increase your revenue! Instead I am here to share with you how Social Media has opened other doors for me in my life.
Social Media sites are excellent when it comes to branding your own personal identity (for those of you that are lost, that mean YOU…Branding YOUR NAME). However sites such as Twitter and Facebook have actually reconnected me with some long lost family members and friends. I
have two cousins that I have not spoken with or seen in over 12 years and I found both of them on Facebook. Another cousin I havent spoken to in about 5 I also found on Facebook.
I have found friends from Junior High (or they have found me) through Twitter and Facebook. Amazing, huh?
Here are a few steps you need to make sure you are taking to allow people to find you on the Social Web:
1. Use your REAL name
2. If you are now married and have changed your last name, make
sure you have your maiden name listed somewhere in your profile. If you havent seen or spoken to the person in years how are they supposed to know that you changed your name?
3. Add a picture
4. Make sure your profile isn’t locked up so tight that not even the Google Gods can find you.
5. Have fun reconnecting! The Social Web has created possibilities that were unheard of 10 years ago, so enjoy it

Facebook is really helpful in finding your lost friends, relatives or previous school mates. I my self found our unknown relatives by search for our surname in Facebook . I also use it to keep in touch with our relatives in other countries.
