Seriously, there is no sense in trying to please the world, so instead, make sure you’re happy. Today on Twitter I had a local acquantance confront me and ask me why I Tweeted about a new Quaker Oats product. My response was simply, “I like the product, they want to sponsor me. It’s a perfect pair so why not?”. Needless to say the individual informed me that he did not like seeing it. I told him to unfollow me. I don’t care about numbers so losing a follower meant nothing to me. What I Tweet is what I approve. I will never please everyone with all of my Tweets. In fact, no one will. Even celebrities Tweet things that others don’t care to see.
Should any of us take it to heart that one, two or a few people do not like our Tweets? Of course not. I Tweet a lot of really good, informative information, am extremely engaging with my connections and yes…. get paid by sponsors to Tweet about products I already know and love.
What’s The Point of This Post?
The point is educate people that are super concerned with what other people think about the content we push on the social channels. Some content is definitely seen as spammy and is discouraged, but if you are happy with the content you put out on any platform, who cares what anyone else thinks, right? After all it’s a reflection of you and not those reading the updates.
What About My Business?
Businesses using Social Media are already seen as spam before they even begin Tweeting, posting or blogging. I learned this today when a clients Twitter account received a random Tweet between two people discussing the client account as being a bot. Imagine their surprise when the so-called bot account replied… and yes, they were surprised and we now have two new followers to Tweet with!
If you are Tweeting or posting anywhere on the Social Web for business you need to remember that your main objective is to connect with your target audience and by doing so you need to create conversations with those people about things that do appeal to them and less about what you’re personally interested in.
Less promotion and more engagement – that’s what I preach daily to my clients at KiMedia Strategies.
At the end of the day ……
…your personal accounts are not there to please others 100% of the time. These outlets are yours to talk and post about anything you like. If people don’t like it, they don’t have to follow you. Remember that the same goes for accounts you follow. If you’re not feeling posts that people are putting out on their platforms you’re going to look like a real asshole asking them not to post specific things, unfollowing is the best way to handle this because just as you don’t want others telling you how to use your Social platforms, they don’t want to hear it from you.

True! I’ve experienced this too. I shared some news on my social media specifically G+ and a random person commented on it saying I’m just spamming. This proves that we will never please everyone, we have our own thoughts, voice, belief and its not always for everyone.

Sadly we will never be able to make everyone happy, I choose to instead make sure Im happy
Some people just don’t get this! I believe in respecting the opinions of other people. Just because you don’t like something means you’re right.

When all our efforts fail to make someone happy then we need to leave that person alone. In spite of sacrificing and comprises, if the person still can’t be happy then better we enjoy our lives. It’s not possible to leave away our happiness for their sake.
Exactly, Victoria!
Right! If we all thought the same the world would e very boring.
